If you are on this blog reading my column and the other guest columns, congratulations! You have taken the first step in getting involved.

That’s all it takes and never before in the history of our country is it more important to be aware, concerned and involved. I’ll say that again it is so important: be aware, be concerned and be involved. Having been in politics for more than 20 years now, it doesn’t matter whether you run for office, work on the town committee, run a campaign, write letters to the editor or something else.

The point is to be aware, become involved and be a part of a philosophy that is bigger than yourself and affects everyone in our community.

Is it pretty? Not always. Is it fun? Not always. But it is important and will impact you whether you are active or not. I’m the type of person that if someone else is making decisions that impact me, my family and my ability to run my business and succeed in life, it is my responsibility to be part of that conversation.
